PitAND Members’ Legislative Luncheon

The Pittsburgh Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (PitAND) had an eventful membership year. Our biggest achievement was transitioning to our beautiful, new and improved website. It was a big step up from our previous site and has allowed for more flexibility in engaging with our members. Thanks to Erin Pover, MS, RD, LDN for her many hours of hard work and collaboration with the design company to turn out a this professional looking and really cool site. Check it out at www.eatrightpittsburgh.org.

One of the biggest highlights last year was the success of our annual Legislative Luncheon in which representatives from 10 legislative offices met and discussed issues of interest with our members. The event allowed us to interact with them for over an hour instead of the usual 15 or 20 minutes we would have when visiting them at their offices. Some of the topics discussed at the tables during lunch included how Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered can help make an impact on policy and how to be more involved as constituents. It was very educational for our legislators as well as our members.

The membership year ended with a wonderful National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist/Nutrition and Dietetics, Registered Day celebration! Members attended a communication-themed professional development workshop. They learned how to better connect the value of healthy food with its cost, picked up some tricks to succeed at intercultural communication with colleagues and clients, and were led through different counseling techniques as well as mindful practice for self-care to reduce clinician burnout. Everyone had an enjoyable time.
